If your Optometrist has told you that you require an operation...
What happens next?
- Your Optometrist will send your details to the local Referral or Booking Management Centre at the Primary Care Trust.
- You should contact the Referral or Booking Centre to discuss where you would like your consultation and operation to be undertaken. You will have a number of choices that will have been discussed with you by your Optometrist.
- The Referral or Booking Centre will ask you to decide where you would like to have your operation and consultation. They will be able to answer non-clinical questions you may have about the centres available to you.
- If you choose to have your operation with ESL at Nuffield Health in Ipswich or BMI in Bury St Edmunds, your details will be forwarded to the team at ESL.
The team at ESL will contact you either by telephone or letter a few days after your conversation with the Referral or Booking Centre. They will arrange a date for your consultation and pre-assessment appointment prior to the operation.
ESL improves on national waiting times for all surgical procedures.
If you have not seen your Optometrist but would like to take advantage of the service ESL offers:
- You will need to visit your Optometrist for an assessment.
- Your Optometrist will decide if you require a referral to secondary care.
- Your Optometrist will be able to discuss the choices available to you.
- If ESL is one of those choices go to "What happens next?" (see above).
NHS patients currently awaiting surgery at an NHS Trust
If you are currently on a waiting list for an operation and have been advised that you will be offered an alternative provider, ESL may be contacting you.
- ESL will retrieve your details and casenotes from the NHS Trust.
- ESL will review your casenotes, if you are suitable for transfer, we will contact you to offer you a date for surgery. NB:
