Mr Richard Baxandall
Trained in Cambridge and St Thomas's Hospital, London and qualified in 1989. He continued his orthopaedic training in
London and was appointed as a consultant in Ipswich in 2000. He specialises in lower limb joint replacement surgery and arthroscopy. He
has a specific interest in hip replacement in the younger patient utilising resurfacing techniques and ceramic articulations.
Mr Mark Bowditch
Qualified from Manchester in 1989, he trained in orthopaedics in Sheffield, Cambridge and East Anglia with a
specialist fellowship in knee and sports surgery in Adelaide, Australia. Mr Bowditch has been a consultant in Ipswich since
2000, undertaking lower limb surgery with a specialist interest in knee, ankle & sports related surgery. He has extensive
skills in arthroscopy (keyhole surgery),ligament reconstruction and joint replacements.
Mr Ivan Hudson
Trained in orthopaedic surgery at Charing Cross and the Royal National Orthopaedic
Hospital in London, he was appointed as a consultant in Ipswich in 1992. He has
extensive experience of hip and knee surgery of all types. Mr Hudson has specialist expertise in orthopaedic
treatment for children, and runs a dedicated children's orthopaedic service in Ipswich.
Mr Chris Martin
Trained in Manchester, undertaking a fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty at Wrightington Hospital for joint diseases, in
Lancashire. Mr Martin qualified in 1993 and gained further experience in the care of the orthopaedic patient in
Manchester and Lancashire, prior to coming to Ipswich in early 2005. He has particular interest in joint replacements,
arthroscopy and hip resurfacing.
Mr John Powell
Mr Steven Pryke
Trained at Guy's Hospital, London and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and undertook a specialist lower
limb arthroplasty fellowship in Canberra, Australia. He has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon
in Ipswich since December 2004. Mr Pryke's areas of specialist interest are in primary and revision hip
and knee replacement surgery.
Mr Christopher Roberts
Trained in Orthopaedics in Cambridge. He completed Fellowhip training in Hand Surgery in Brisbane, Australia,
and in Shoulder Surgery in Cape Town, South Africa. He has been a Consultant in Ipswich since
2004. Mr Roberts' specialist field of interest is in Upper Limb surgery.
Mr Chris Servant
Qualified from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, London and trained in orthopaedics in Bath and
Swindon, gaining further experience in Southampton and Bristol. He also worked in Australia at
the North Sydney Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre, where he gained specialist experience in knee
and shoulder surgery. He has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Ipswich since February
2004. Mr Servant's particular interests include hip and knee replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery (keyhole
surgery) and ligament reconstruction.
Mr Michael Shanahan
Trained in orthopaedic surgery at Bristol and Sheffield and has been an NHS consultant
since 1990. He specialises in upper limb surgery and has extensive experience in
reconstructive hand surgery. Mr Shanahan's other special interests include arthroscopic
surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist.
